This will be a shorter version of this series as it’s been a heavy week for my family, and I am rushing to get ready for an unexpected trip to Calgary for a funeral.

So what’s been lighting me up during this difficult week? The upshot of my my Lenten series this year being dedicated to the Lives of the Saints is that it’s been a wonderful way to spend more time with these wonderful and inspiring figures. At a time when Christianity is being abused for all kinds of ant-Christian purposes— to line the pockets of the super-rich and keep the marginalized and poor oppressed — it’s easy to want to give up on it entirely. It’s so inspiring and reassuring to remember that none of this is new, and there are individuals in every age and place who kept the light burning even in the darkest times.
My reading highlight this week was A. Rae Dunlap’s The Resurrectionist, which did a brilliant job of juxtaposing the brightness of Enlightenment values and the seedy dark side required to move them forward.
In a heavy week, this is what has been keeping me going and brightening up my way this week. So what’s lighting you up?
